Who we are
BotShark (“we”, “us”) is run by ASOK, of 80 Darby Road, Liverpool, L19 9AW. You can reach us at [email protected].
These terms cover the BotShark website, the app, the API (including the botshark command-line tool) and the browser extension. By using any of them, or by creating an account, you accept these terms.
What a score is and is not
BotShark scans public accounts on X. We add another platform only when we enable it. A scan samples an account’s public activity and produces a score and a plain-language report.
A score is an automated estimate. A high score means the sampled activity resembles patterns commonly seen in automated, coordinated or promotional accounts. It is not a finding that the account is a bot or is run in bad faith, and it says nothing about who the person is, what they believe or which side they are on.
We make reasonable efforts to keep the service accurate and available. A scan depends on what the platform exposes at the time, on rate limits and on incomplete sampling, so a report may be wrong, incomplete or stale. To see how a score is worked out, readthe methodology.
Acceptable use
When you use BotShark you agree to the following.
- Do not use a report as the sole basis for adverse action against another person, such as an employment decision, a report to a platform or a public accusation. Combine it with your own judgement and, where it fits, other sources or a direct conversation.
- Do not use BotShark to harass, threaten, dox or stalk anyone, or to target people for their views or identity.
- Follow each platform’s terms and the law. Do not use BotShark to scrape or store data you are not permitted to access.
- Keep your password, authenticator and API keys to yourself. You are responsible for how they are used.
- Do not probe, overload or get around the service’s security, limits or quotas.
- Use the API only with your own key and within its limits.
- Do not resell access to BotShark without our written permission.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Subscriptions and payment
BotShark has a Free plan and two paid plans, Personal and Pro, paid monthly or yearly. A year costs the same as ten months. Prices are in US dollars and are shown on the pricing page.
Stripe takes the payment. Checkout shows the total, with any tax, before you pay. A paid plan renews by itself at the end of each month or year until you cancel it.
Each plan includes a number of checks a month, listed on the pricing page. A check is one scan. Checks reset on the 1st of each month (UTC) and do not carry over. A scan that fails on our side is not counted. Browsing the library and opening reports never uses a check.
If we raise the price of your plan, we email you at least 30 days before. The new price applies from your next renewal, and you may cancel before then.
Cancelling a subscription
You can cancel at any time. In Settings, under Plan & billing, Manage subscription opens Stripe’s billing portal, where you cancel. Your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for. Your account then moves to the Free plan and keeps its reports.
Deleting your account cancels the subscription at once.
Your right to cancel within 14 days
If you are a consumer in the UK, you have 14 days from the day you buy a subscription to cancel it, without giving a reason. Email [email protected] from your account’s email address, or tell us clearly in any other way.
We refund what you paid, by the payment method you used, within 14 days of the day you tell us.
The law lets this right end early for digital content, but only where you asked us to start supplying it at once and acknowledged, when you bought it, that you would lose the right. Unless you did both, you keep the full 14 days.
Refunds
Outside those 14 days we do not refund a period you have partly used, and deleting your account does not refund the rest of a period. If we charge you by mistake, or the service fails on our side, we put it right, with a refund where that fits. None of this affects your legal rights.
Liability
If you are a consumer, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and nothing in these terms takes them away. We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or of our failing to use reasonable care and skill.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.
If you use BotShark for a business, our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect loss or lost profit.
Age
You must be 18 or over to create an account or buy a subscription.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts hear any dispute. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring a claim in your local courts.
Changes to these terms
The version and date at the top of this page show the current terms. If a change reduces the rights of a paying subscriber, we email them at least 30 days before. It applies from their next renewal, and they may cancel before then. Any other change applies from the date shown.
