Neutrality & transparency

BotShark measures behaviour, not ideology. Our sampling is platform-neutral. A report is one input for investigation — not a public verdict.

Non-partisan by design

Rules target automation and coordination signals — not political content or affiliation.

Neutral sampling

Reply-network and follower samples follow fixed methodology, not curated target lists.

Evidence over narrative

Every flag links to underlying posts and metrics — sceptics can audit the reasoning.

Not for enforcement

Reports support investigation and transparency — not automated bans or public shaming.

Every tool in this category faces the same accusation: that it is a partisan labelling machine. BotShark is built to resist that. Scores reflect behavioural patterns associated with automation and coordination — posting bursts, template phrasing, asymmetric engagement, follower creation clusters — regardless of what an account posts about.

Our seed and reply-network sampling uses fixed rules, not editorial judgement about which accounts deserve scrutiny. When politically charged networks appear in samples, that reflects who an account engages with publicly — not a editorial stance from BotShark.

Treat a BotShark report as one investigative input alongside primary sources, context, and human judgement. We publish methodology openly so journalists and researchers can challenge our assumptions.
