BotShark shows why an X account looks automated, coordinated or farmed — the posts, the rules, the date — with a way to dispute it.
150 words
BotShark is an explainable bot and coordination checker for X. Enter a handle and it reads the account’s recent public posts and replies — and samples of its followers and amplifiers — then runs its full set of checks (114 at ruleset 23). The report gives a 0–100 likelihood, the posts that tripped each check, and what it couldn’t see. When there isn’t enough to go on, it says “Not enough to tell” instead of guessing. Every report is dated and stamped with the ruleset that scored it, quoted posts are archived, and the account owner can post a response that stays on the page. A browser extension puts scores beside accounts on x.com, and there’s an API for researchers. BotShark is built in Liverpool by Stu, a developer with nearly 30 years on the web. Free to start; paid plans from $9.99 a month.

The labelled eval
Published 14 July 2026. 123 labelled bots and 43 labelled humans.90 of the bots had an empty timeline. “Human” labels are accounts from the operator’s own following list. “Bot” labels are handles the operator supplied as known automated or farmed accounts. It is not a random sample of the platform, and it is still short of the target of 100 humans and 50 bots with posts. The methodology page has the tables.
